Hey everyone,
So this blog post is a little later this week because I’ve been waiting on a special delivery… my official acceptance packet from the University of Mississippi!

I received an email from my Ole Miss correspondent last Thursday informing me that my packet was on the way. I was given a FedEx tracking number and one of the other Deakin students that’s going to Ole Miss with me and I were constantly checking online to see when they’d be delivered. We saw that they arrived on Monday, so today while I was on my lunch break at Uni I went into Deakin’s Study Abroad office to pick up my packet from my advisor!
The packet itself is nothing super exciting, but it contains my official acceptance letter, the little poster paper in the photo above, an expected costs sheet specific to my circumstances, and a whole lot of information I need to read and documents I need to fill out to start completing the next stages of my enrolment process. These next stages include applying for my visa and going to a consulate appointment, sorting out health and travel insurance, and applying for housing. The visa appointment sounds a little intimidating, because I need to be very educated about my program so that I can communicate my intentions for wanting to enter the United States, and I need to sign a lot of forms and provide a lot of supporting documentation. However, my Deakin advisor informed me that it’s pretty simple and unless I’ve got a criminal record, I’m pretty much guaranteed a visa because I’ve got the official acceptance from Ole Miss (because the institution you’re going to has to ‘sponsor’ your visa application and accept responsibility for you as a visitor to the country).

So now I get to really get into more specific elements of my exchange with this official confirmation of my acceptance into Ole Miss. I have until mid-July to get all of these applications and documents completed and submitted, but I’m so eager that I’m going to get straight into it. I’ve already gone online and changed my status to ‘committed’!
That’s all the exciting news I have for now, so I’ll check back in next week. Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to subscribe if you want to be notified by email whenever I post something new!
